Fabien Delanaud, Myriad Connect GM, speaks on Digital Inclusion

Off the back of Myriad Connect’s extensive experience in mobile technology in Africa, Fabien Delanaud, GM, has spoken about the potential to open up digital channels to the 3.9 billion people globally who do not have access to the internet. Telecoms publication Vanilla Plus featured Fabien’s “Extended Internet: Connecting web-based services to people without the internet”.

Fabien discussed how the developing world, where much of the population does not have affordable access to the internet, should be capitalising on mobile technology already extensively used through Africa and other developing markets. “Unstructured Supplementary Services Data or as it’s more commonly known USSD, is a Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication technology that is used to transfer data between mobile devices and a network in a safe, secure and temporary manner”

Fabien went on to describe how “USSD is set to provide an extension to the internet by providing enterprises and mobile network operators with access to all of their users. Although this technology has been in use for nearly 20 years, with modern technology through a platform-as-a-service offering, USSD has the potential to transform communications.”
